03/19/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes I met an angel tonight and his name is Bruce. He doesn’t have wings and his fur may be a little worse for wear but he certainly deserves a good dog halo for all the gentle, selfless affection he offers to everyone lucky enough to cross his path. Beautiful Bruce is under-fed and probably under-loved too, but he holds no grudges against us humans and is grateful for even the smallest kindnesses. He’s just as keen to spend time outside or enjoy some cuddles as the next dog,but his superb manners dictate that he quietly waits his turn by sitting right in the middle of his spotless bed. Leashed up and dressed in a jiffy, Bruce doesn’t seem to mind the rain and immediately shows off his house training skills before trotting calmly right by my side like the gentleman he so clearly is. Naturally he knows commands for ‘come’, ‘sit’ and ‘stay,’ and though his eating style is understandably a bit grabby, he can catch treats mid-air like a pro, never dropping so much as a crumb. Bruce seems relaxed around other dogs, even yappy little ones, and he radiates the kind of soft calm that would put anyone at ease.Chew toys and balls are appreciated and happily shared but it’s in the snuggle department that Bruce really shines;leaning heavily into my side, kissing my chin, doing a happy dance as I rub his butt or nuzzling his head into my lap like a puppy, he simply cannot get enough or give enough love. Visit our Manhattan Care Center and meet your own little slice of heaven.his name is Bruce and he’s waiting and hoping that today is the day you come to take him home. A volunteer writes:I had to meet Mr. Awesome after being told by another volunteer how much she loves this boy. He’s fun, gorgeous, quiet in his playful way, happy to make new friends, likely housetrained and loves to snuggle. And in the smartest of doggy things to do, Bruce invented a game of “over under” threading himself through my legs and out and back and out and back. He’s so much fun, and does it all so gently and cutely I found myself completely immersed in his game. When he was done, he lay his handsome head in my lap for some petting, and I could hear him thinking, ‘wow, how much fun was that!!!’ So,if a handsome, sweet, gentle, affectionate, dog is who you are looking for you need to come meet Bruce today. 03/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bruce pulls a bit on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Bruce was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test but at the end of the game. He was not interested in toys. Bruce did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Bruce is mostly distracted by scents in the yard, but is tolerant of being approached and sniffed, and eventually offers brief greeting in return.
