01/12/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1061862 Bruce previously lived with seven adults. The owners stated Bruce is housetrained, has a low activity level and well behaved when home alone. The owners mentioned when a stranger approaches the home Bruce will watch them intently and once they are in the home greet them with a loose body and his tail wagging. At intake it was reported Bruce was calm with loose body posture, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Bruce came into the assessment room nervous and timid, he was shy but a bit social towards the assessor with a slow approach, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Bruce head flips and bare his teeth at the assessor on the tag item. He displayed no interest in the toy item during this portion of the assessment. When on leash for a dog interaction with another dog on leash Bruce approached the helper dog with his body a bit tense and tail above his spine. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is tense and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed. Tag: 5. Dog head flips and bares teeth. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog with his tail high, body a bit tense, head tall, and ears erect.
