MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/7/17 During his initial medical exam, Bruce had a tucked tail and was growling and barking. ENERGY LEVEL: Bruce’s previous owner described him as having a medium level of activity.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter, adult-only home (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No children (under 13): Due to Bruce’s high level of anxiety, as well as his owner stating he has become more anxious with a new baby in the home, we recommend an adult only home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Bruce remains aloof with handlers at the care center, he does not respond to attempts to interact with him and he avoids looking at the handler. It is important to always go slow and give Bruce the option to walk away from any social interaction. Bruce should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Bruce’s choice to approach a new person or thing. Bruce would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings. _X_Anxiety: Bruce’s owner described him as having a very high level of anxiety, especially around loud noises. We recommend Bruce be placed in a quiet, patient home that can give him a lot of time to acclimate. The help of a professional trainer or behaviorist is recommended strongly.
