08/31/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Brownies walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Brownies had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. He became stiff and uncomfortable during paw handling (freezes and wrinkles his muzzle). The behavior team decided to use the flank squeeze instead and he didn’t respond at all to the touch. Brownies was not interested in toys. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog freezes Flank squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs Brownies ignores interaction and spends her time exploring the yard
