02/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Brownies came to us as an owner surrender on 2/16/16 due to the owner no longer having time to care for him. According to the owner Brownie is playful and relaxed when interacting with adults, children and a kitten that he had lived with. He was very interested in exploring the assessment room when entering it for his evaluation. He was a bit interested in interacting with the assessor though he did nip the assessor with moderate pressure when first introducing himself. He did not settle for the look item, and was a bit distracted during the tag interaction. Brownie had stiff body language for the initial squeeze test, so the assessor conducted the flank items after which he had no response to. Brownie took the toy away with soft body language on the toy test when the assessor attempted to take it with the assess-a-hand. The behavior department believes that Brownie can to a home with an experienced owner. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needs coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Flank squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is between you and the toy, and he is loose and wiggly. No growling or stiffness. When off leash with other dogs, Brownies greets nervously with a low body and raised hackles. He does loosen up when he begins to interact with the helper dog and follows her around the pen, bouncy all the way.
02/17/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Brownies greets nervously with a low body and raised hackles. He does loosen up when he begins to interact with the helper dog and follows her around the pen, bouncy all the way. 2/18 update: Brownie is hesitant to greet the other dog and has a stiff posture with raised hackles but does eventually greet with a lowered head. Upon opening the gate, the other dog rushes him and jumps on his flank. The handlers interrupt and give Brownie some space to recover and re-engage but he is overwhelmed and offers a hard correction of growl, bark and lunge as the other dog begins to solicit attention from him again.
