08/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Brody pulls a bit on the leash. He was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. Brody was calm and relaxed during handling. Brody was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He took the toy away with a soft body language. Brody shows concerning behavior around other dogs in the past and for that reason we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. His body is soft, likely panting, likely to display high movement between attempts. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.
08/12/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Although Brody barks and lunges at dogs passing his kennel, he greets a female dog through a barrier in the yard with a tense body, sniffing for a few seconds then moving away. However, due to his history he is muzzled for this interaction. He enters the pen and rushes up to the helper dog, nudging her with his nose then moves around to her rear and begins sniffing. Brody is distracted by his muzzle so after a brief interaction with the helper dog he spends his time attempting to remove his muzzle; he ignores solicitation. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placing Brody into a home with other dogs as well as exercising caution when walking him in areas where there will be small dogs.
