07/26/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: The Urban Dictionary defines ‘Brody’ as cuteness, and honestly, they should have a picture of our Brody along with the text, as this compact little guy defines ‘cuteness’. “Social and friendly” during the intake process, Brody is indeed happy to make new friends, giving me lots of kisses as we got to know one another, and making a new friend on the street with a stand up hug and a happy tail wag. Brody seems to be housetrained, ‘going’ the moment we were outside, pulls slightly on the leash but no biggie, shakes paw, sits when asked, and takes treats gently. Good manners and a sweet personality are all wrapped up in a handsome tan coat and big doe eyes. Brody can get a little jumpy and slightly mouthy (no pressure) when he’s happy, but responds nicely to correction. In his first playgroup session, Brody greeted others politely and solicited play from the female greeter. Because of his potential for a little mouthiness, our behavior team feels that Brody will do best with an experienced person or family without young children. A super sweetheart, happy to hang out chewing on a pigs ear (a kind of delicious treat) after playtime, Brody is hoping you’ll stop by to visit with him today. I think you’ll agree with the Urban Dictionary’s definition of his name!
07/25/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Brody came into our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He was friendly upon intake, allowed all handling. He pulled hard on leash for his relief walk. Brody allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands during Look item, relaxed. He licked and mouthed assessor’s hand without pressure during Sensitivity item, leaned body in. Brody followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, a bit distracted, unresponsive to each pass. He jumped on assessor lightly during positioning for Squeeze item, still a bit excited from Tag game. Brody mouthed assessor’s hand on both Squeeze attempts, no pressure. He kept a firm grip on Toy, body a bit stiff. When off leash with greeter dog Body greeted nicely and solicited some play. Due to his potential for possible possessiveness, the Behavior Team feels Brody would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have very young children. He would benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners, as well as no mouthing and the cue ‘drop it’ plus trade up games. Brody appears to display with a lot of energy, would also benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of walks, runs, exercise, play. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure. Tag: 2. Dog follows at the end of the leash, a bit distracted, unresponsive to each pass Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy 1: 3. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is a bit tense. Dog-dog: When off leash with greeter dog Body greeted nicely and solicited some play.
07/24/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
7/24 When off leash with other dogs, Brody offers polite greeting. eventually he begins to display high interest in soliciting play from the female greeter. The behavior team feels that Brody could be placed with another social dog pending successful pre-adoption interaction. Brody arrived a sa stray with no history on behavior with dogs, so it’s unknown how his behavior around dogs will translate into a home environment.
