Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1063450 Bristol came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Bristol had soft body posture coming out the crate, he growled when trying to exam his teeth and aged him. He allowed limited handling. During SAFER Bristol came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was social and attention seeking towards the assessor, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Bristol growls at the assessor on the sensitivity item. He freezes and growled when attempting to remove the toy item during this portion of the assessment. When on leash for a dog interaction with another dog on leash Bristol approach the helper dog with his tail at spine and confident. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 5. Dog growls. Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes and growls. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
