09/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bria came into our center as an owner surrender after having conflict with a neighbor’s small dog which resulted in a bite that left a mark. According to the owner, around strangers, Bria is friendly and plays gently. She has been around owner’s four year old grandson and was always relaxed and respectful. Owner had a cat at home and stated that Bria would like to chase the cat around but never hurt the cat. Bria had bitten another small dog two years ago and just recently bit for a second time. Owner reports Bria will growl if someone tries to take away her food bowl, has recently started growling if she is held back from going somewhere of interest, not bothered if anyone touches Toys or Treats. Owner reports Bria is housetrained and well behaved when home alone. She reportedly knows the cues “sit, paw, and bark”. Bria is described as friendly, affectionate, confident, mellow and independent. During intake, Bria was nervous and lip licking but allowed all handling. Bria was uncomfortable upon entering SAFER assessment room, moving slowly, lip licking. Using a slow approach, she allowed all tactile handling. Brian allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands during Look item, lip lick, a bit tense. She was tense but allowed the touch during Sensitivity item. Bria followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body a bit low, unresponsive to each pass. She did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts, ears and tail neutral. Bria showed minimal interest in Toy, sniffing before turning away. She approached the similarly sized helper dog with a relaxed body, tail at spine level. The Behavior Team feels Bria would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have young children. It is advised that not reside with any dogs smaller than her, and any similarly sized dogs should have an in depth interaction before considering adoption. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted.
