01/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1063175 Bougie previously lived with 2 adults and has been around children ages 5 and 10 years old. The owner stated Bougie will be respectful towards children but does not tolerate children or adults tugging at his collar or pushing him, he will growl and possibly nip. The owner mentioned Bougie may play too rough for younger children. It was reported by the owner Bougie does not like other dogs, he will lunge, growl or bark. The owner describes Bougie as confident, lovable and protective. The owner stated Bougie is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. Bougie has a previous bite history where he bit the owner on the face playing tug a war with him. It was also mentioned by the owner Bougie can be reactive when his testicles are touched accidently, he has lunged and nipped when this happens. During SAFER Bougie came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Bougie was easily aroused, mouths the leash with his body a bit tense during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Bougie was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some concerns stated from the previous owner Bougie will growl and nip around children and when his testicles are accidently touch, and also having a previous bit history where he bit the owner on the face. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 3. Dog gets easily aroused, mouths the leash with tense body language and slowly de-escalates. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with his tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
