02/27/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/27/16 14:31 Basic Info: Boss A1066161 is a 3yr old male white & brown AMPBT mix who was given to owner from a friend & is being surrendered due to the owner no longer having time for him. He was last seen by a veterinarian in 2015 and currently has some corn allergies and skin irritation due to a shampoo that made Boss itchy. Socialization: Around strangers Boss is friendly/outgoing. He’s lived with a 5, 7 & 10yr olds and was gentle, exuberant, relaxed, playful & somewhat rough with them (during play he’s big & doesn’t know his strength) also with the adults in the home. Boss lived with a cat and he learned to leave him alone due to the cat not being too fond of Boss’ energy. Boss has never bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: Boss will chew on small items he finds when left alone & chained up. During storms/fireworks he’ll bark. He isn’t bothered by the following: having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being disturbed while sleeping/resting. Boss loves being brushed. During baths Boss struggles to get away. He hasn’t had his nails trimmed. If someone approaches the home/family member Boss wants to play. For A New Family to Know: Boss is friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable & independent with a high activity level. The owner likes how friendly & playful he is. Boss enjoys playing with a bottle, rope toys and games of fetch & tug. Boss is mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps on the floor & is walked 3x a day where he pulls sometimes on his leash. Boss eats dry dog food 2x a day and likes any kind of dog treats. Boss is allergic to corn & can’t eat Pedigree. He will have accidents in the home if someone takes too long to take him out. Boss’ known commands are “sit”, “stay” & “come”. Intake Behavior: Boss allowed all handling. He allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of. He was a very jumpy, friendly, super wiggly boy who took us quite a few tries to get a picture of. Boss was then coaxed into a kennel with food and some liver treats.
03/01/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: The Bossman!! Lived with 3 young children with whom he was gentle but forgot sometimes that he’s big, and lived with a cat whom he learned to ignore as the cat didn’t want to play. He doesn’t like baths, but loves to be brushed, doesn’t guard his ‘stuff’, is housetrained when walked regularly and knows ‘sit’, ‘stay’, and ‘come’. Boss confirmed his housetraining skills by peeing endlessly the moment we were out the door, walks nicely on leash pulling slightly from time to time, and proudly carried a plush toy in his mouth the entire time. So cute!! Boss seems to be used to getting a treat after he goes potty as he looks up proudly, tail wagging and standing right in front of me until I produce a treat. Taking it gently, we then walk on. Off leash in the yard, the toy and a ball won his heart as he played, gave chase and joined me on the bench with his prizes. Never guarding, I could take anything out of his mouth and he’d then hang out for some cuddles. We’re told Boss likes any kind of treats but is allergic to corn products. In his first group with other dogs he offered some play bows and engaged in brief play. I loved my time with Boss, he’s fun, quietly playful and affectionate and clearly has enjoyed the love of a family. The Boss is looking for a new family to love and take care of. Some lucky person or family will love their life with Boss — shouldn’t it be you?
03/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Boss is a young, energetic dog who appears to be frustrated with the kennel environment. He is beginning to show some deterioration possibly as a result of limited stimulation, jumping and climbing at the walls of his kennel. His owner describes him as “friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable and independent, with a high activity level” and we feel that it is in Boss’s interest to move into an active home experienced with high-energy dogs as quickly as possible, so he can get the physical and mental stimulation he needs to thrive. 3/1 SAFER: Boss pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up and mouthy (light). He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Boss was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He took the toy away but had soft body language. Boss was surrender to us. His previous owner described him as a friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, excitable & independent with a high activity level. Around strangers Boss is friendly and outgoing. He’s lived with a 5, 7 & 10yr olds and was gentle, exuberant, relaxed, playful & somewhat rough with them, also with the adults in the home. Boss lived with a cat and he learned to leave him alone due to the cat not being too fond of Boss’ energy. Boss doesn’t mind having his food, food bowl, toys, treats touched or moved. Boss is a very active and jumpy dog. He appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy.
02/28/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Boss has mostly displayed anxious behavior while out in the yard for off leash socialization. He has briefly engaged in brief play before becoming anxious. While Boss arrived into our care as an owner surrender, the previous owner did not describe his behavior around other dogs. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction, as well as allowing Boss time to decompress and acclimate in a new home before introducing him to resident dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Boss greets politely. He briefly offers a few bows and engages in bouts of bouncy play. Boss becomes anxious with prolonged time in the yard and begins to pace and whine. 3/1 update: Boss is anxious. He briefly greets, then seeks to exit the yard.
