INTAKE BEHAVIOR: MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 6/20/17 During his initial medical exam, Boots snapped when his head was touched. ENERGY LEVEL: Boots’ previous owner described him as having a low level of activity. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter, adult-only home (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _X_No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Boots is currently with touch and novel stimuli, as well as his bite history, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Boots bit a family member in his previous home when he was being leashed. In the care center, he appears fearful, avoiding being touched. It is important to always go slow and give Boots the option to walk away from any social interaction. Boots should never be forced to approach anything that he is uncomfortable with or to submit to petting or handling. It should always be Boots’ choice to approach a new person or thing. Boots would do best in an initially calm and quiet home environment and should be given time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
