11/16/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: The name Bonnie comes from the Scottish word meaning “pretty” or “attractive,” both of which our Bonnie certainly is. At 6 years-old she is also the perfect age. She’s known life, known love, and most of all known a family. That much is infinitely clear from the moment that you meet her. She has a wonderfully easy way about her, a smart and knowing look when you suggest a walk as she easily shifts forward in her kennel. As Bonnie and I spin around the corner on a cool, autumn day we right away encounter a staff member who crouches down to “ooh” and “aww.” “Oh I love this girl,” he says, as he rubs her velvet ears, and Bonnie closes her eyes just for a moment as if filing the memory away for later. After our walk during which this silver beauty handles her business right away, we retire to a pen and Bonnie is unleashed. There she takes treats gently, shows off her sit, and thoroughly inspects each and every toy that you have to offer. Eventually she decides to make herself most comfortable, and most comfortable, well that’s next to you. You obligingly wrap your arm around her frame, pulling her close into your coat, and she leans into you even further and gives you another knowing look. You sit there a while. Just the two of you, quietly enjoying the pressure of the other. And just as the sun slowly dips behind the brick Bonnie rests a single paw right upon your knee. Maybe purposefully, maybe not. But she leaves it there and looks ahead. And as the final piece of light slips away from you and your pen, you close your eyes – just for a moment – and file the memory away for later. Beautiful Bonnie, my Bonnie lass, my soulful girl. Bonnie is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan’s ACC.

Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Bonnie plays exuberantly with other dogs in the care center. Bonnie may be selective when engaging with female dogs, and may benefit from a pre-adoption interaction to ensure compatability with resident female dogs. Bonnie would also benefit from slow introductions to resident male dogs in a home. It is recommended that resident dogs in a home are playful, or tolerant of play. 12/30/15: When off leash with other dogs, Bonnie is polite when greeting a social male. She engages in brief bouncy play and offers multiple play bows. 11/10/16: Bonnie interacts with both males and females today. She will engage in some running play but is more intersted in exploring the yard. When another female becomes anxious and seeks exit, Bonnie tense, stands over her and growls. 11/11-12: Bonnie engages in exuberant running play with a male dog. She offers correction if mounted. 11/16: Bonnie is vocal and exuberant when engaging with male dogs. She displays high levels of increasing arousal as play intensifies, and requires intervention to be slowed down by handlers.
