A volunteer writes: Little skinny Bonnie is tense and focused…Food is the object of her passion and Bonnie is very serious about it…At two years of age, Bonnie did not have it easy, at least, it is what we presume from her dismal state of nutrition, the shape of her coat and the number of broods she likely raised. She is so pretty, though and just imagine how gorgeous she would be well fed, well cared for and mostly loved. Her robe, wrapping a very medium size body, is quite elegant, so are her markings. Bonnie is ravenous for food and treats and will jump quite high to get her share…even that she is fed three times a day here at the care center. I think she would eat anything… She can sit on command , though and wags her tail while begging for goodies. You might think that survival is all what our Bonnie is about and you would be partly right…It will take time for Bonnie, even in a house of plenty to believe that tomorrow will bring for sure another bowl full of kibbles and secure a dedicated owner. I saw the hints in the half an hour we spent together that Bonnie can see beyond the treats. Sure, food created a bond between us but she sat by me and accepted caresses, scratches on her head and butt and even gave me a tiny lick on the face…I did not expect that….Can love be learned, discovered at this age when the memory of it has been buried long time ago when Bonnie was snuggling tight against her mother’s belly? It surely can and it depends on you believing that you can make a difference in the life, welfare and outcome of a shelter pet. Bonnie is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming of a brighter future with you.
