Socialization: Bobo is very friendly with strangers and are relaxed and playful with adults and children. Bobo is gentle with children. Bobo has only been around KIng so previous owner is unsure how he will be around other dogs. He will bark at other dogs that pass the yard he is in. They plays respectful and gentle with each other. He has never been around cats in the home but when seeing them in the street he will try to chase them or bark at them. Behavior:Bobo isnt bothered during fireworks or thunderstorms. He is ok with having food, treats, and toys taken away from him. He is ok with being held or restrained and doesnt mind being disturbed while sleeping. He has never had his nails trimmed but is afraid of baths and will try to run away from them. He doesnt mind strangers coming towards the home or owner. For a new family to know: Bobo is friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, independent dogs. He has a medium activity level. Bobo rarely seeks attention. Bobo is mostly an outdoor dog and comes in at night. He has his own dog bed in the basement. He eats Purina dry food. He is potty trained and never has accidents. He will use either the cement or grass to use the bathroom. He is well behaved when left alone in the yard and in the home. He knows how to sit, stay, come, down, and may learn more. He plays in the yard for exercise. He hasntt been walked on a leash too often so he will pull hard. Off leash they wander but come when called. Behavior during intake: Bobo was not interested in coming inside of the care center. He lay on the floor of the entrance and refused to move. He was drooling, his ears all the way back and very stiffed posture. The admissions counselor was able to place him into a kennel and he ran inside of it.

09/05/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Full Profile 8/31/17 Unaltered Male, Owner Surrender Previously lived with: Adults Behavior toward strangers: Friendly Behavior toward children: Relaxed and playful Behavior toward dogs: Respectful and gentle with the dog he lived with, unknown with others Behavior toward cats: Attempts to chase and barks at cats he sees outside Resource guarding: None reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Bobo is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, confident, and independent with a medium activity level. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 9/3/17 Summary: Bobo is difficult to remove from the kennel, lunging and barking when approached. He has allowed minimal handling from his caretakers and has been unable to remove from his kennel since intake. Out of concern for his stress levels and due to safety concerns, we feel Bobo is not a great candidate for a handling assessment at this time. Please see his owner surrender profile for a full summary of his behavior in his previous home. INTAKE BEHAVIOR: Upon intake, Bobo was very tense and would not move. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/3/17 During his initial medical exam, Bobo was barking at the front of the cage in a fractious manner. He was unable to be removed from the kennel and a visual exam only was performed. ENERGY LEVEL: Bobo’s previous owner described him as having a medium level of activity. He is a young dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.
IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS: Bobo has been observed to bark and lunge at some people upon approach while in his kennel, and retreat and shake with others. When handlers attempted to remove him from the kennel with two leashes, he immediately lunged at one handler, then when pulled back lunged at the other. He was able to be stabilized and returned to his kennel with the use of a safety pole. No other handling was attmpted due to concerns for the safety of staff and for Bobo’s stress levels. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13): Due to how uncomfortable Bobo is currently with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. _X_No cats _X_Place with a New Hope partner: Bobo has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Bobo is very fearful at the care center, growling and lunging while in his kennel. He is not able to be safely removed from the kennel. The behavior department recommends an experienced adult home only until he can acclimate to his new home environment for the behavior to be further assessed. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is advised; force-free, reward based training only is recommended.
