01/09/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Our Bobby Brown has his own claim to fame. He’s handsome, probably housetrained, good on the leash, shy and oh so very sweet. He’s a bit nervous in this new environment and while it was clear he wants to make friends he’s shy about doing so. He let me put a coat on him and out we go. As we pass other dogs on our walk he perks up and his tail wags as he greets them and he backs up a step at the same time. What a cute welcome! BB has been beautifully taken care of, his weight is perfect for his size, his coat gleams and his sweet personality comes through loud and clear. Off leash in the backyard he explores the pen, and comes over to put his head in my lap for some petting. His tail starts to wag as we get to know one another. I know with time BB will reveal all of himself, and even later that same day he was out with staff and his tail was wagging and he was pretty amazing. BB is a solid, sweet dog destined to be your best friend given that chance. He’s worth it and you deserve him. Ask to meet him today!
01/09/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bobby is fearful of the shelter environment he walks with a low and fearful body language. He was fearful and repeatedly attempted to get away from the handler during the assessment. Bobby becomes extremely frightened during the tag interaction, tail tucked, and trying to exit room. He was not interested in toys or rawhide. Bobby is nervous and trembling throughout the assessment and has a crouched body posture. The behavior department advises that future adopters should be able to provide positive experiences for Bobby. In addition, we recommend that introductions are done slowly, and Bobby be given the opportunity to interact at their own pace. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. Bobby is somewhat fearful and needs time to warm up to the handler. We cannot be certain if behavior may be suppressed as a result of the shelter environment. Please note that behavior may change when Bobby is more comfortable and settled in a home environment. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, shy body language, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 3. Dog repeatedly turns quickly away when touched, or repeatedly spins toward the touch, and repeatedly tries to exit, Dog may be crouching ,tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Toy 1. No interest.
01/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Bobby engages in exuberant running play but often has intent to mount the female dog (he is currently unaltered). He has engaged in play with a male but when the male is uncomfortable Bobby becomes pushy and tense, not backing away when corrected. He entered the care center as a stray so his in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. Based on these interactions the behavior department recommends Bobby have a pre-adoption interaction before going to a home with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs Bobby is sexually motivated and will continue to attempt to mount once corrected. He may offer a few play bows with intention to mount the helper dog. 1/13: Bobby continues to display sexually motivated behavior, but begins to engage in running play when solicited. 1/14: Bobby begins to engage in bouts of bouncy play with another playful dog. 1/15 update: Bobby engages in bouncy running play with males and females. He is pushy in his solicitations with a male, often bouncing into him with hackles raised; he does not back away when given clear correction.
