01/09/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/09/16 15:17hrs Bluebari is described as affectionate and friendly. He lived with adults only but would interact with children aged 3 and 4 years old. He was playful with them, jumping on them and attempting to kiss them. He lived with a female dog named Aissis and is playful with her. When he notices other dogs, outside he begins to look at them but stays to himself. BEHAVIOR Bluebari is accustomed to being bathed at home. He will sit still but attempt to drink his bath water. He isn’t bothered by having his food touched while eating. He and the female dog would eat at the same time sometimes sharing the same bowl. Bluebari owner stated that he spends his time lying down but will follow his owner around the home. When there are visitors in the home, he will jump up on them attempting to give hugs and kisses but him and Aissis would be placed in their room because of the constant attention they give. Bluebari is kept in his room during the day with Aissis but they behave well. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Bluebari enjoys playing with hard balls. Bluebari knows the command “sit” and “down.” Bluebari is accustomed to being walked for at least 2x a day for 15 minutes at a time. His owner will walk him off leash while inside enclosed yard areas and he will come when called. Bluebari is accustomed to eating Pedigree wet and dry dog food. Bluebari is afraid of plastic bags and will run if one is near him. He sleeps on his blanket in his own room. DURING INTAKE Bluebari would wag his tail and attempt to jump on the Admissons Counselor. He allowed petting on his head but would become overly excited and continue jumping up. He was collared, scanned for a microchip(negative) and photographed without displaying any negative behavior.
01/12/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Wanna play? Hey, let’s play! I’d love to play, are you ready? Bluebari has a fun, active energy and can’t wait to get outside to romp. Surrendered along with his housemate Aissis (A1062593) as their family is moving where the dogs aren’t welcome, we’re told that Blue (for short) has interacted with very young children and is playful but will jump on them in an attempt to kiss them as he will with most people. He shared his food bowl with his doggie friend, is afraid of plastic bags and will run from them, knows ‘sit’ and ‘down’, is well behaved when left home alone. Blue peed enough to raise the Hudson River by 5 inches, showing off his housetraining skills and could use a little leash training or a harness as he does pull. Showing off his ‘sit’, he takes treats gently, loves to play fetch keeping his eye on the ball waiting for the throw, and never stops wagging his tail. He’s been gorgeously taken care of, his weight is perfect for his size, and his coat is clean and groomed. Blue is looking for an active home and does need some training in a different way to greet people and show his love other than jumping on them! I love his enthusiasm for people and everything around him, and he’s smart and will learn quickly with positive reinforcement training. He’s a terrific dog who will make a terrific companion for an active person or family….come meet him and see for yourself.
01/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bluebari came into our center as an owner surrender on 1/9/2016. Owner reports he lived with adults only but would interact with children ages 3 and 4, playful, jumping on them and attempting to kiss them. Owner also reported he lived with a medium sized female dog, playful together. Owner states Bluebari isn’t bothered if anyone touches his food, would share food bowl with the other dog. Owner reports Bluebari is fearful of plastic bags. During intake, Bluebari wagged his tail and attempted to jump up on admissions counselor. He allowed petting on his head but would become overly excited and continue jumping up. Bluebari pulled on leash for his relief walk. He was difficult to position for Look item, pulling out and jumping up on assessor, but once positioned he held gaze for three full seconds, lip lick, low wagging tail. Bluebari stood still during Sensitivity item, lip lick, ears back, tail down. He played along during Tag game, hopping and popping his body, but became over escalated mid way through game and began jumping hard onto assessor. He redirected easily and settled at end of game, standing still with open mouth pant. Bluebari was difficult to position for Squeeze item, moving his body/legs away with soft body. He did not pull his paw back, and jumped up on assessor at end of game. Bluebari showed minimal interest in Toy, sniffing it a few times and seeming interested in the squeak sound, but did not engage in play. He was uncomfortable during dog to dog interaction, turning to the side and attempting to exit, whimpering. The Behavior Team feels Blueebari would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have very young children. He would benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners and not to jump up. Look: 2. Difficult to positon, jumps up hard. Dog holds gaze, lip lick. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands, low wagging tail. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, mouth closed, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game, half way through jumps up on assessor continually, but settles. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves his legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog may smell and/or lick, then turns away. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog, turns to side, attempts exit
01/12/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Bluebari is social and polite, engaging in play when solicited but respecting dogs who are nervous or uncomfortable. He may briefly solicit by offering bows and bouncing toward the other dogs, both male and female, but will cease when the other dog does not reciprocate. He lived with an female dog and his owner reports he is playful with her. Based on this information the behavior department believes that Bluebari could go to a home with another dog that engages in the same calmer play style. When off leash with other dogs, Bluebari offers polite greeting. He is toelrant of play solicitation but does not engage. He becomes anxious with prolonged time in the yard. 1/13: Bluebari is offers brief greeting, then focuses on sniffing and exploring his surroundings. 1/15 update: Bluebari greets politley but is more interested in seeking attention from handlers. 1/16 update: Bluebari greets politely and is respectful of dogs who are not interested in play. He will briefly solicit bouncy play with a female.
