07/19/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/19/16 21:01 Basic Information: Blue Ivy is a 1 year old neutered male Pit Bull that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Owner has had Blue for a week. Owner cannot keep Blue anymore due to how mouthy she is with their kids. Socialization: According to the owner, around strangers, Blue is very friendly. She has been around children ages 3,6, and 8 and is very mouthy with them when she plays. Owner stated that she plays exhuberantly with them . Owner had a cat in the home and stated that Blue was respectful around the cat but they never left the cat and Blue alone together only supervised. Blue has never bit another animal or person while in the care of the owner. Behavior: Owner has never tried to take away Blue’s food or trim her nails therefore behavior is unknown. She is not bothered when owner would take away her treats or toys, being held/restrained, being given a bath, or having her paws touched. Blue was friendly when someone would disturb her while she was sleeping or if someone unfamiliar would approach the owner or the family. When someone unfamiliar would approach the home or yard, she would bark and wag her tail. Owner stated that when she tried to brush her coat, Blue was tolerant but curious about the brush. For a New Family to Know: Blue is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, clingy, both confident and pushy with a medium to high activity level. In the home, she liked to follow the owners around and be in the same room as them. She was kept indoors only and is partially house-trained. She had 4 accidents in the home and owner started to take her out more often which helped. When Blue was left alone in the home, owner would put her in a crate and Blue would whine for a few minutes but never destroyed anything in the crate. Blue was never left alone in the yard. She knows the commands sit, come, down, and drop it. Blue loves to play with balls that has a rope attached to it and likes to play tug. For exercise, Blue was taken for slow walks on the leash and let in the yard supervised. On the leash, Blue pulls very hard. Owner never tried to keep her off leash as she would run away. Owner fed Blue dry food only brand Science Diet 2x a day. Behavior during intake: Blue jumped on me right away during intake, tail wagging, giving me kisses. I was able to scan her for a m/c, and collar her without any issues.
06/29/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I’m a puppy! I’m a Princess! I’m ready to take on the world! My name’s Blue Ivy and my volunteer friends say I’m the sweetest, prettiest, most fun playdate ever. I’m totally cool chillin’ with kids, adults, strangers and other dogs because there’s enough Blue Ivy for everyone! I know how to come and sit on command and love to play but don’t get too hyper like some puppies and I’m always happy to share my toys with you. Go ahead and take that ball out of my mouth, I won’t say a word! Treats? Love ’em. Snuggles? Love ’em! Treats and snuggles together? Bring. It. On!!! I’m a little clumsy sometimes but I can walk real nice on leash and if you show me a bench I will jump right up, stand on the armrest and wear my ‘Queen of the Mountain’ crown with pride. Being brave is second nature to me, so fireworks and thunderstorms are no big deal. And baths? You guessed it–I love ’em! They tell me I did well on my behavior assessment and would fit into just about any experienced home, but I’m really really hoping to find a family as fun-loving as I am with plenty of time to play and snuggle and teach me some new tricks. So there’s just one question you need to ask yourself…are you ready to rock?!! The one and only Princess Blue Ivy (that’s me!) is definitely ready to roll, come on in and ask to meet me today!
07/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
In an adoptive home for a week, Blue Ivy showed similar mouthiness and quick arousal seen during her in-shelter assessment with the children in the home. She nipped at a 6-year-old’s hand, jumped on an 8-year-old and nipped him on the side, and mouthed at a 3-year-old’s fingers and toes. No injury was caused or skin broken, and the behavior was likely play or attention-seeking, but was overwhelming for the young kids. Otherwise, Blue is reported to play exuberantly and to be friendly with strangers. She was respectful toward a cat in the home, though the two were always supervised. She is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, excitable, clingy, confident, and pushy with a medium to high activity level. She may need some help getting her housetraining back on track, as she had a few accidents during her days in her previous home. She tolerated being crated. She pulls hard on leash. Due to her low threshold for arousal we recommend a home without children under age 10. We recommend experienced adopters prepared to provide daily mental and physical exercise, and appropriate outlets for her energy. She may benefit from reward-based training classes and guidance to learn appropriate ways to solicit attention and to play with her human companions. 6/28 SAFER: Blue Ivy pulls a bit on the leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (light). Blue Ivy was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Blue Ivy was surrendered to us. Her previous family describes her as playful, affectionate & friendly, with a high activity level. She loves to play and jump on people. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs shoulder, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 & 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place his body between you and the toy.
06/29/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Blue Ivy is exuberant and social. She often does not stop or slow down when other dogs are not comfortable with her playstyle, however. She may mount, again, without responding to correction. Her owners report she has never interacted with other dogs, so any in-home behaviors are unknonwn. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction as well as, if Blue Ivy is adopted into a home with another dog, that she is with one that will teach her proper social skills. 6/29: When off leash with other dogs, Blue Ivy is playful and solicitous, however does continue to solicit from dogs that are not comfortable with her style of exuberant play. 6/30 update: Blue Ivy engages in rough, mouthy play with both males and females. She is exuberant and often does not read signs given by other dogs that they are not comfortable with her playstyle. 7/1 update: Blue Ivy continues to engage in exuberant play but will slow down her play once corrected. 7/2 update: Blue Ivy is exuberant and playful but is persistent with her solicitations with dogs that may not be comfortable with her playstyle. 7/3: Blue Ivy is playful and exuberant. She often mounts during. She continues to solicit from uncomfortable dogs. 7/5 update: Blue Ivy mounts other dogs during play and does not cease when offered correction. 7/6: Blue Ivy engages in mouthy, vocal play, mounting frequently during and becoming increasingly aroused. 7/7: Blue Ivy continues to display the above behavior.
