03/08/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Looking for a lap warmer? Meet Miss Bluebird! She’s awesome and nothing pleases her more than hanging out on my lap, and I was delighted to have her there. Leashed easily for a walk, she peed a lake as soon as we were out the door, so yes, I’d say she’s housetrained. Whew! Her leash manners are good, she pulls slightly from time to time but no biggie. As we pass other dogs, Bluebird wags her tail gently, and in her first playgroup she greeted the helper dog politely and offered an appropriate correction when needed. Bluebird is stunning in her puppy soft coat, her tail wags happily, she’s active and fun and everything she does is done with puppy-like happiness. Not pushy at all, just a simple nice energy with which she approaches everything, even kisses and cuddles! As she hung out on my lap I found that “sweet spot” that got that back leg moving — you know what I mean. So cute! She smiles, she kisses, she wags, she greets, and she hangs out. I love her and you will too. Come meet our Bluebird and fly away with her today.
Another Volunteer Writes: Spring has sprung and let us rejoice in new lives and new beginnings and that a dog like Bluebird is in the world. To say she is a volunteer favorite is to soften the truth– we are obsessed with her and the joy she gives to all of us. She is the one who finds herself in a shelter and yet she is so busy spreading such happiness and love with her constantly wiggling, enthusiastic and loving self it’s as if she were here to comfort us as we try to care for her. She is gorgeous, she is adorarable, and she gives us such happiness, a happiness we will willingly give up knowing that she is in a forever home spreading joy for the rest of her life
03/08/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Blue Bird pulls a bit on leash. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Blue Bird was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She took the toy away but had soft body language. Blue Bird did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Blue Bird greets politely. She offers correction from mounting, but pursues and follows the helper dog afterward, vocalizing.
