I am a male gray and white am pit bull ter mix. The shelter thinks I am about 4 YEARS old.
I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 10/13/2016 from NY 10305, owner surrender reason stated was PERS PROB.

10/13/16 20:36 Basic Information: Blue is a 4 year old male Pit Bull Terrier Mix that has no past or current medical issues that the previous owner is aware of. Previous owner has had Blue since he was a puppy but she can longer have the dog due to complications with her neighbors. Socialization: According to the previous owner, if a stranger were to approach Blue while he was with her he would be possessive & defensive & would snap at the stranger. If a stranger were to approach Blue while with anyone other than his previous owner he would be friendly &outgoing. Around previous owner & her child, Blue is relaxed respectful, & playful. Blue plays in a gentle manner. Blue has lived with 2 cats. One of them he grew up with & is respectful & relaxed with but the other that was just recently brought into the home, Blue chases with a serious prey drive. Blue also chases the stray cats that come across the backyard. Blue has never been exposed to other dogs so behavior around them is unknown. He has never bitten a person or another animal. Behavior: Previous owners stated that Blue doesn’t have any behavioral issues. Blue will growl & snap when any food, treat, or toy is taken from him. Blue enjoys having baths & isn’t bothered by having his coat brushed. Previous owner did not trim Blue’s nails & did not take him to a groomer or vet because he can snap. Blue barks, growls, and lunges when an unfamiliar person approaches the home, yard, previous owner, or a family member. For a New Family to Know: Blue is described as protective, possessive, defensive, but affectionate with a medium activity level. When in the home, Blue is the type to follow you around seeking attention. Blue likes all kinds of toys but he destroys them all. No games should be played with Blue because you cannot attempt to take only toys from him because he may bite. Blue was kept indoors only & was fed Iams dry dog food. Previous owner stated that wet dog food gives Blue diarrhea. According to previous owner, Blue is house-trained & would never have any accidents. Blue usually goes to the bathroom on the grass. When left alone in the home, Blue would be left in crate & is well-behaved. The longest time Blue has ever been in a crate in 10 hrs. Blue knows commands sit and give paw. For exercise, he enjoyed brisk walks with the previous owner & playing in the yard. On the leash, Blue can pull slightly & previous owner would not let Blue off the leash.

Blue previously lived with adults, children and 2 cats. The owner stated Blue is relaxed respectful and playful towards the children but around strangers with the owner being present, Blue will become reactive. The owner mentioned Blue lived with 2 cats, one he grew up with and was describes as respectful and relaxed, but the other that was just recently brought into the home, Blue chases with a serious prey drive. It was reported by the owner Blue will growl and snap when any food, treat, or toy is taken from him. The owner describes Blue as protective, possessive, defensive, but affectionate with a medium activity level. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that Blue is not an appropriate candidate for SAFER at this time. Blue was very nervous but allowed all handling during his medical exam. In the kennel Blue can be seen growling, snarling, lunging and trying to bite when approaching his kennel. A SAFER assessment will not be conducted due to safety and stress level concerns.
