02/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Blue came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Blue was shy and nervous but he did allow all handling with a slow approach. During SAFER Blue came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was shy but friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Blue was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Blue was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Blue appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Blue greets the helper dog with a soft, loose body. Once in the pen he does not solicit nor engage in play and gets uncomfortable and appeared overwhelmed by the helper dog’s solicitations and playful energy. Blue stiffens his body, pulls his ears back and raises his hackles in response.
