03/10/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Blu walks calmly on leash. He was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. Blu became a bit stiff during handling he doesn’t like been handle around his collar. Blu was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He became stiff and uncomfortable during paw handling. The behavior team decided to use the flank and he does not respond at all. Blu was not interested in toys. He approaches helper dog, body is tense, ears erect and high tail wag. Blu was surrender to us. His previous family described him as an energetic, affectionate and playful. He lived with a 9 and 13 year old in the home. He would allow the children to pet him and even play on his back. When he notices other dogs he will pull towards them and sniff. His owner stated that on many occasions when Blu has interacted with other dogs, he has sniffed other dogs and then immediately lunged after the dog attempting to bite them. His owner doesn’t allow him to interact with other dogs. Blu will allow his owner to touch and take food from his bowl. He allows strangers to approach and pet him when he is walked outside”. Blu became uncomfortable when the assessor tries to position him during the assessment. Because of his owner surrender profile and the assessment the behavior department feels that Blu may do best with an experienced adopter no children who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes stiff. Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 3. 03/11/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Blu approaches to the gate to greet the helper dog with a stiff body and a high, erect tail; after a few seconds he walks away. Due to his injury he is unable to be introduced for off leash interaction. His owner reports that when Blu notices other dogs he will pull towards them and sniff. He also mentions that on many occasions when Blu has interacted with other dogs, he has sniffed other dogs and then immediately lunged after the dog attempting to bite them. During one interaction with a female Blu attempted to mount her and when correction was offered (turn and snap), Blu escalated, bit and latched onto her neck; he did not release and needed human interjection to get off of her. Based on this information, the behavior department recommends Blu does not go to a home with other dogs until his behaviors can be followed up on.
