07/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Blossom came to us as a stray; she was brought into the shelter with unknown owner information. At intake it was stated Blossom was friendly and tolerated all handling. During SAFER Blossom walked into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was social towards the assessor. Blossom had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Blossom was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Blossom was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Blossom appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, ears back, eyes soft, soft body, open mouth and panting. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, with some coaxing, body soft, a bit distracted. Squeeze 1:1 Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. No interest, does not approach. Dog-Dog: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Blossom initially rushed at the gate and began barking and lip curling. Due to this behavior, she was muzzled before being allowed into the pen. Once in the pen, she allowed the other dog to sniff her but she was mostly occupied with trying to get the muzzle off.

She allowed the other dog to sniff her but was occupied with removing the muzzle. On her second playgroup session, Blossom displayed nervous but soft body language and was allowed into the pen without a muzzle. She was tolerant of greeting and mostly wandered in the pen. She showed slight assertive posturing but was able to listen to handler interruption and continue to wander in the pen. 6/30: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Blossom initially rushed at the gate and began barking and lip curling.
