He plays in an exuberant manner with kids and adults. He lived with a 6 year old Pitt Bull and he was relaxed and tolerant of this dog. They play in a somewhat rough manner with each other. He spent time with a cat, he was fearful. He would bark and then run away. He has never bitten a person or animal. Behavior Owner stated Bleu has no behavior issues but get nervous during storms and fireworks. Bleu is not bothered if his food is touched while eating, if any kind of treat is taken away, if a toy is taken away, if pushed off furniture, if held, if disturbed while sleeping, or if bathed. Owner has never brushed his coat or trimmed Bleu’s nails. He will bark if someone knocks on the door or if someone unfamiliar approaches the owner or family member. For a New Family to Know Bleu is described as friendly and very playful with a very high activity level. Owner stated Bleu will lick her face when she is crying. Bleu loves belly rubs. He will stay in the same room when home. He likes to play with chewable style toys. He likes to play tug and fetch. He is kept indoors only and normally sleeps in the kitchen floor. He is fed dry food, Purina Adult, 2 cups 2 times a day. He is house-trained and will go potty anywhere outside. When left home alone he is well behaved. He is crate trained and will do well for 8 hours or so. He knows commands like sit, lie down, and give paw. Owner takes him running for exercise. He pulls very hard on a leash and owner never walks him off the leash. Behavior during Intake Bleu was very wiggly and jumped on me many times. He wanted to play with my rope when I was attempting to collar him. He did relax and sat on command for his photo. He did not show any signs of aggression during intake. He was full of energy.
WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Bleu is my name, playing is my game! Fun, friendly, energetic, loves to hug and will jump up for them, smiley, tail waggy, beautifully groomed – that’s our boy Bleu. Surrendered to our care when his people lost their home, Bleu lost not only his home but the people he called family too. He’s been gorgeously taken care of, he’s housetrained, lived with another dog, loves belly rubs, and is well behaved when left home alone. He’s used to going jogging with his owner, so sitting in a kennel is simply not for our boy Bleu! He loved playing with a squeaky toy, tossing it around, lying down froggy style to rest when he was pooped. He’s a big galoomph, who’s looking for a fun and energetic new family with whom to spend the rest of his life.
08/31/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bleu pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Bleu showed some concerns during the tag interaction as he growled during the second pass and became over aroused grabbing the leash. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Bleu took the toy away but had soft body language. Bleu was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Bleu is friendly around strangers. He has lived and been around kids of all ages. He plays in an exuberant manner with kids and adults. He lived with a 6 year old Pitt Bull and he was relaxed and tolerant of this dog. They play in a somewhat rough manner with each other. He spent time with a cat, he was fearful. He would bark and then run away. Bleu is not bothered if his food is touched while eating, if any kind of treat is taken away or if a toy is taken away. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 5. Dog growls and became over aroused grabbing at the leash. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Bleu approaches and greets with a soft body and wagging tail. He is tolerant of play solicitation however does nto engage. The behavior team feels that Bleu could potentially be adopted to a home with another dog pending a successful pre adoption interaction.
