Blaze
Hello, my name is Blaze. My animal id is #19640. I am a desexed male brown brindle dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 4 years 7 months 2 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 31-Jan-2018, with the surrender reason stated as animal behaviour – aggressive towards people.
Blaze was placed at risk due to behavior concerns observed in the care center and also has a history of biting. Due to all noted concerns displayed in a home environment (which include a multiple bite history), the behavior department recommends Blaze be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home.

How is this dog around strangers?: Blaze is aloof. He is protective of his family especially the owner and will growl and give the whale eye.

When left alone in the home, Blaze would be well-behaved. Blaze knows commands sit, come, give paw, and lay down. For exercise, she enjoyed slow with the previous owner but mostly playing in the yard. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: NEW HOPE ONLY
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: New hope only: Due to all noted concerns displayed in a home environment (which include a multiple bite history), the behavior department recommends Blaze be placed with a New Hope placement partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Blaze to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing Blaze to new and unfamiliar situations. Consultation with a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended for guidance to safely manage/modify any behavior Blaze presents with outside of the care centers.
Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity,Fearful/potential for defensive aggression,Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression
Potential challenges comments:: Blaze has a multiple-bite history and escalates quickly to snapping and biting, so this is an established behavior that he offers when he feels threatened. Blaze needs careful behavior modification and management to prevent future bites. We recommend only force-free, reward-based training methods for Blaze as more aversive techniques are likely to increase fear and increase the risk of aggression
