Profile:
Blancy A1076367 is an approx a 6 year old Pekingese mix. He was purchased from a pet store in NJ and is being surrendered due to the owner having a disability. He has not been to the vet in the past year and he currently has no known health issues.
Socialization
Blancy is fearful of strangers according to the owner’s daughter who came in to surrender. The daughter is not too fond of Blancy and is afraid of him. She does not like to carry him or pet him and said that he is not friendly with her or the brother. They do not like him. Blancy lived in the home with another dog and she said that she likes him better because he is friendly. Blancy gets along great with the other dog. He has not been around cats. He has not bitten anyone or any other animal.
Behavior
Blancy was walked once a day and used wee weepads in the home. He is not bothered by thunderstorms/fireworks. He is not bothered when you take his food bowl away or his treats.. He does not mind nail trimming or brushing and loves bathtime. He does not bark when someone unknown approaches.
For a new family to know
Blancy is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, and mellow only with the owner according to the daughter. He has a medium activity level. At home, he follows the owners around the house and wants to play. He sleeps on his doggie bed. He does have chew toys and squeaky toys. He was fed Pedigree dry dog food. He loves belly rubs and petting and seeks attention all the time from his owner. When the daughter and brother come over, they pay more attention to the other dog and he stays away from them on his bed.
Behavior during intake
Blancy was fearful but he allowed me to approach and scan (-) him. He was collared by staff and leashed. The owners daughter kept saying that he bites and to be careful. Once in our care, he was a bit fearful but tolerated all petting. He allowed me to carry him and place him on the backdrop where he sat for photos. In the kennel, he kept jumping in my arms to be held.
Behavior:
Blancy came into our center as an owner surrender citing owner’s declining health. It is reported Blancy lived in the home with another dog and the two got along very well. Behavior around cats is unknown. Family of owner reports Blancy was walked once per day and also uses wee wee pads in the home. He is reportedly not bothered if anyone takes away his food bowl or treats. During intake, Blancy was fearful but allowed handling. He was growling and nervous during his initial medical exam, did not allow handling. Blancy was uncomfortable upon entering SAFER assessment room, hesitant to walk on leash, laying down and not moving, alert to any movements. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, tense. Blancy accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, tense. He did not follow at the end of the leash for Tag game, but was unresponsive to each pass. Blancy did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He showed no interest in Toy. When off leash with other dogs, Blancy mostly kept to himself but would at times jump on the handlers for attention. The Behavior Team feels Blancy would do best with an Experienced adopter that does not have children. He would do best in a calm, quiet, structured environement so he can relax and know what to expect.
