MOST RECENT MEDICAL INFORMATION AND WEIGHT
09/21/2016 Exam Type BEHAVIORPART2 – Medical Rating is 3 NC – MAJOR CONDITIONS NOT CONTAGIOUS, Behavior Rating is EXPERIENCE, Weight 76.2 LBS.
PLAYGROUP: According to Blakie’s previous owner, Blakie has not been around other dogs. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Blakie is nervous as he greets the female dog. He mostly keeps to himself as he explores the pen and is tolerant of the greeter dog’s long face to face greetings. IN-SHELTER BEHAVIOR: Over the last two days Blakie has begun to display severe leash biting behavior with both staff and volunteers. Due to this he has become difficult to remove from his kennel and poses a safety risk while on walks and during his general care. The Behavior Department feels that this behavior is a direct result of the high level of arousal associated with being housed in the care center however this behavior may also appear in a home environment. Due to this deterioration we recommend that placement be sought as soon as possible for Blakie’s well-being. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 09/13/2016 Upon his initial medical examination Blakie was friendly and tolerated all handling. ENERGY LEVEL: Blakie displays a medium activity level in the care center. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced home Potential challenges: _x_Mouthiness/Poor bite inhibition _x_Leash-biting

09/20/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: The last time I was taking Blakie out for a walk, I ran into a potential adopter in the hallway. “Do you guys have any puppies right now?” My response: “Who needs a puppy when I have a well-behaved and playful older gentleman right here who already knows good manners and won’t chew up your shoes?” He wasn’t interested, but maybe you will be, reader! 🙂 Blakie is no spring chicken, but he is certainly young at heart. When we go for walks, he loves to try to play with his leash and to say hi to every person we pass–he’s an explorer who loves to check out every hallway and leave no stone unturned. While waiting in his cage, Blakie keeps his head down and his eyes focused on the door at all times, waiting for someone to come and take him out. His former owner surrendered him because of personal problems that had nothing to do with Blakie, who has never lived with any other family for his whole life (that explains why he’s so eager to get out of his cage now!). Come and give this sweetheart a new lease on life–he deserves a real family and a real home to live out his twilight years in.
