A volunteer writes:
A little Tootsie Roll on 4 (little) legs, it doesn’t get much cuter than Buddy. 4 years-old and only 18 lbs. Buddy is quite a sight in his shiny, perfectly-maintained coat and adorably floppy ears. The only thing better than Buddy’s good looks are his manners! He trots beautifully next to me on leash and sits over and over again for his treats. He quickly joins me for snuggles on a bench and even humors me in donning a patriotic t-shirt accepting my fumblings and fussings with it without complaint. Buddy is the perfect size, temperament, age, and playfulness for any home or apartment and is undoubtedly the missing ingredient to your perfect summer. Buddy is waiting in adoptions at Manhattan’s ACC.
BEHAVIOR :
Buddy walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Buddy had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash. He was not interested in toys.
Buddy did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home.
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Toy: 1. No interest.
Playgroup Notes:
When off leash with other dogs, Buddy sniffs and roams. Eventually he attempts to mount other dogs.
6/29: Buddy engages in bouts of play and takes frequent rests in between.
6/30: Buddy continues to display the above behavior.
7/1 update: Buddy engages in brief play but will avoid more exuberant dogs, eventually offering correction for a persistent female.
7/2 update: Buddy engages in brief play but will offer correction when the play becomes too exuberant.
7/5: Buddy keeps to himself.
