07/22/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/17/17 13:47 Basic information BJ is a 2 year old male small breed mix with no known medical conditions. Bj is being surrendered because the Owner is moving to a facility that does not allow pets. Socialization BJ has lived with a teenager the age of 14 and was relaxed and respectful towards them. BJ plays somewhat roughly with adults and the teenager because he is mouthy when playing. BJ has not lived with cats or other dogs. Around dogs outside BJ will bark. BJ does not have a bite history. Behavior During storms and fireworks BJ gets nervous and will hide. BJ isn’t bothered when the owner touches his food bowl while eating but anyone else who comes near his food he will begin to growl. BJ isn’t bothered when having toys and treats taken away or being pushed off furniture. BJ IS ok with being held and restrained b owner but the when restrained by other family members he will growl and snap. BJ isn’t bothered when getting a bathe and has never had his nails trimmed by previous owner. When being brushed BJ will try to run away. For the new family to know BJ was described as sweet, fearful and anxious with a medium to high activity level. BJ enjoys playing with balls and will chase the ball but doesn’t bring them back. When home BJ will follow you around. BJ is partially house trained. BJ has accidents around 3 times a week if not taken out in time. BJ does well for up to 6 hours. BJ gets walked 3 times a day and prefers to go to the bathroom on grass. BJ knows the commands sit. When left alone BJ is well behaved in the house. For exercise BJ goes for walks in the park. BJ pulls sometimes on the leash and has never been let off the leash outside. BJ has gotten out of the house a couple of times and won’t come back when called. Intake Behavior: BJ had a low body posture at times, had a loose body, wagged his tail but barked, growled and slightly lunged (then ran back towards the owner) as I attempted to approach him. BJ allowed to be scanned (-) while the owner held him. Due to these behaviors owner assisted with collaring, taking his picture and placing BJ into his kennel.

RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children (under 13) _X_Place with a New Hope partner: BJ has not acclimated well to the kennel environment and has allowed only minimal handling since intake. We recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home. Potential challenges: _X_Handling/touch sensitivity _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Though he has improved during his stay at our care centers, BJ continues to give all appropriate warning signals when uncomfortable. Due to the consistent behavior displayed in shelter, the behavior department recommends an experienced adult home only until he can acclimate to his new home environment for the behavior to be further assessed.
