A volunteer writes: He may look a little worse for wear on the outside but inside middle-aged Bisoo hides the happy heart of a puppy who never grew out of loving life and the people he shares it with and while the going may have gotten tough, he clearly never did. Bisoo’s so thrilled to meet new friends and I find him waiting at the very front of his kennel with a wagging tail and bright eyes that hold only one question in their velvety depths…are you here for me? When he realizes I am, his excitement over going for a walk can’t be contained and we dash outside to a chorus of long nails skittering across the floor and my own feet scuttling along behind–Bisoo is a strong guy! He takes care of some pressing business then moves into explore mode, sniffing and listening and looking all around to make sure no corner remains undiscovered and while he does pull excitedly toward other dogs, his wagging tail never quits. Off-leash Bisoo is more into socializing and sitting (good boy!) for treats than playing with toys but he does pick one up every now and then and I bet he’d make a great fetch partner with a little encouragement. Snuggles are welcome any time and he’s a big fan of butt scratches, curling his body into what I call the ‘happy banana’ position and coyly peeking back over his shoulder–what a cutie! Bisoo is looking for a home where he’ll enjoy long walks, good food and all the TLC he’s missed out on in recent years and in return he promises to fill your days with unconditional love, loyalty and laughter. Don’t miss out on the deal of a lifetime, adopt sweet Bisoo today!
12/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Unaltered, Owner Surrender Previously lived with: Adult (1) Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward dogs: Lunges and jumps at dogs he sees outside. Behavior toward cats: Unknown FG/RG: Unknown Bite history: None reported. Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Previous owner described Bisoo as jumpy and very active. Other notes: Bisoo is reported to be crate trained SAFER ASSESSMENT: Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game. He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest, dog picks up toy but quickly drops and loses interest. Summary: Bisoo appeared anxious throughout his assessment, panting and whining. He displayed a high level of energy, jumping on the assessor and pacing back and forth. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. PLAYGROUP: 12/28: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Bisoo is tense and mostly intent on following and mounting the female greeter dog. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/27/16 During his initial medical exam Bisoo appeared nervous and high energy. He growled during the exam. ENERGY LEVEL:
RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter _X_No young children (under 5): Due to the potential challenges listed below, we recommend a home without young children. Old, dog-savvy children can be considered pending interaction. Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control: Bisoo demonstrated a lack of impulse control by jumping up repeatedly throughout his assessment. His previous owner also reported that he was jumpy and very active. He would benefit from positive reinforcement training to teach him basic manners and to not jump up on people. Daily physical exercise, such as walks, runs, and play, and mental stimulation, such as kongs and puzzle toy would also be beneficial for him. _X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration: Bisoo’s previous owner reported that Bisoo lunges and jumps at dogs when on walks outside. He will need positive reinforcement training to teach him to focus on the handler rather than the dogs he is passing when outside. We recommend only force-free, reward-based training methods for Bisoo.
12/28/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
12/28: When introduced off leash to other dogs in the care center, Bisoo is tense and mostly intent on following and mounting the female greeter dog. His owner reports that he “Gets excited when he sees other dogs. Lunges barks, pulls on leash.” The behavior department feels that Bisoo should have slow, structrured introductions if being placed into a home with another dog.
