Biscuit
Hello, my name is Biscuit. My animal id is #16069. I am a male white dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 1 years 4 months old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 14-Dec-2017.
Biscuit is at risk for behavioral reasons. Biscuit displays discomfort with handling at times, growling and snapping. For this reason, we are seeking placement only with a New Hope partner. Medically, we have no concerns for Biscuit, who presents as a healthy dog.

Upon intake, when approached with the microchip scanner, Biscuit would hide behind finder’s legs. When approached without the scanner, Biscuit would approach and lick my hand. Biscuit allowed me to pet him on the head and enjoyed having his chin scratched and would start to move his back leg as if to scratch his own chin. Biscuit allowed me to collar him and put a leash on him. When I tried to take off the harness he had on, if I touched his left front paw he would growl. When I tried to pick up Biscuit, he would growl and try to bite. However, he would open his mouth and go for my hand but did not apply any pressure. Once in the kennel, Biscuit would try to run out of the kennel.

Recommendations:: No children (under 13),Place with a New Hope partner
Recommendations comments:: No children: Due to displaying sensitivity during handling, we recommend an adult only home. Place with a New Hope partner: Biscuit displays discomfort with handling at times, growling and snapping. For this reason, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide any necessary behavior modification (force-free, positive reinforcement-based) and re-evaluate behavior in a stable home environment before placement into a permanent home.
Potential challenges: : Handling/touch sensitivity
Potential challenges comments:: Handling/touch sensitivity:Biscuit has growled and snapped while being handled, showing discomfort with touch in certain areas. It is important to be cautious when touching Biscuit as we do not know where he may have sensitivities. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Biscuit to be more comfortable with this. Guidance from a profession trainer/behaviorist is recommended.

Such dorks….how could the ACC actually say behavior issues even exist, …first of all, Part of his toes are missing and pa
,broken tail, etc….ummm…. wouldn’t that be a reason for any living thing to be nervous and uncomfortable if those areas are touched? Second of all, he is a pure Jack Russell, lol…need I say more!?!?! They certainly aren’t known to do well in shelters and with strangers, especially when away from their owners! But best little dogs EVER…I adopted one in her teens and she lived into her twenties…she was AWESOME! A big dog in a tiny body! Love everything about them….their looks, size, shape, personality, attitude, honesty, and they have a huge heart for their owner. Anyone one loves Jack Russells will be hitting the jackpot if they adopt this little guy….and as ALWAYS, they are all 100% FINE once out of the shelter! I take adult dogs all the time from shelters who say they are unsocial, hard to handle, etc and none of that is ever true…it’s just shelter behavior because they are scared and need to try to protect themselves not knowing what to expect. But this little guy is a good boy…and look at that tail wagging in his picture!!!
YES! YES! As usual, you’ve called it doberZan. Please give this little guy a chance…like any small dog, the noise and chaos of the shelter is too much to take! He will be just fine when he is outta here! Please consider fostering or adopting!
I saved lucky in Sept from nycacc in Manhattan. He was labeled a growler and biter and deemed unfit to live. He is only 2. He is all tail wags and kisses and very happy in PA now. NYCACC got it so wrong. He loves my other dogs and cats and kids. Can’t imagine life without him. He only needed compassion. A gentle consistent hand, and to trust me… to know I would not hurt him. I thought biscuit had several interested people… Be a hero, save this pup.

WTH is wrong with you ACC? Biscuit is missing toes, and his foot is bloody..Get a FN clue why he doesn’t want to be handled, and why he is snapping..This poor baby is in pain..For the love of God..This Clown outfit is what is determining what dogs should live and die..I wouldn’t trust a negative word they say about a dog..Their mission is to exterminate, exterminate, exterminate!!! at any cost..Even if it is infecting dogs with kennel cough so they have an excuse to kill them..Because according to ACC they don’t kill healthy dogs, but if they are infected with kennel cough, they aren’t healthy..Mind you kennel cough is something that is easily cured..Please someone save Biscuit, and get him out of this horrible nightmare..Adoption or fostering will save his life..Fostering is free, all cost is paid by the rescue including medical..Pledging pays for Biscuits care..Contact Help Desk on Rescues who offer free fostering..Not all do…Share him far and wide to reach Biscuits special person..Biscuit is still a baby, and he is hurting..Please don’t let ACC kill Biscuit
