10/20/16 14:51 BASIC INFORMATION: Billy is a brown/white American Pit Bull terr mix, neutered dog. Billy was given to the owner 5 yrs ago as a gift & has no known health issues. Billy was last checked by a Veterinarian over a year ago. Owner is surrendering dog Billy to ACC due to child conflict issues. SOCIALIZATION: Around strangers, Billy will lunge, bark, growl & bare teeth. Billy has resided with two children 4 yrs old. Billy does not play with children & has barked & growled at them when the children are in his way. On one incidence, the child was in Billy’s way & he suddenly grasped onto the child’s arm, Billy did not break skin in this incidence. Billy has not resided with another animal & when he has encountered another dog in the street he will, lunge, growl and bark. He has not been exposed to cats or other small animals. Billy has not bitten or scratched anyone or another animal within the past 10 days. BEHAVIOR: Owner has not touched or came near Billy while he was eating, owner also stated she has not attempted to remove an item or toy from his mouth. Billy enjoys baths and grooming. When a stranger is outside the home, he will bark to make the owner aware. Owner stated over the past 6 months, Billy’s temperament has changed. He has started to lunge, bark & growl at visitors. Billy has also started this behavior towards the children in the home. Although he has not broken skin, he has grasped onto one of the children’s arms, when the child was in Billy’s way. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: Billy is best described as an independent dog. His activity level is medium & he loves to go out for brisk walks. When owner comes home, Billy follows the owner around. Billy enjoys playing with squeaky toys & chew bones. He has been kept mostly indoors & sleeps in the owners room, on the floor. Billy enjoys eating dry food from any brand, 2X daily. He is house trained & goes potty on cement areas. When he is left home alone, he is well behaved. When walked outside, Billy pulls very hard. Owner believes Billy would do best in a single or couple home. BEHAVIOR UPON INTAKE: Upon intake Billy began to lunge & bark at counselor. Allowed minimal handling and scanned positive.
