07/08/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
07/08/16 14:27 Bigge last visited the vet a year ago. He is shy for a couple of hours but then warms up to strangers. He barks a lot. He is gentle with his owner and strangers once he acclimates to strangers. Biggie has never been around children. biggie lived in a home with two other dogs, his brother and mother. They play well with each other and do not interact much with other dogs other than barking at dogs that they see from a distance. When he sees other cats they attempt to chase them. Biggie is house trained and does not use the bathroom indoors unless his walk is missed. He does not destroy any household items. If there are loud noises Biggie often gets scared and will start shaking. Biggie does not mind when his food bowl, toys or treats are touched or taken. When given a bath he will attempt to escape and run away. When brought to the dog groomer he is scared of them but does not bite. If disturbed while asleep he does not mind. He has a medium activity level while at home on an average day. He likes to play with balls. He is kept mostly indoors. Biggie has been crate trained and at night sleeps in his crate. When on his walks he likes to relieve himself on the grass and trees. Biggie pulls very hard on the leash and is never walked off the leash. Biggie knows Sit, Down and PowPow. He is fed Beneful and Pedigree wet and dry food twice a day. Owner stated that Biggie has not been eating for a couple of days and she was not sure why. Biggie entered the shelter with loose body and barking. Biggie allowed all handling but barks and growls when behind kennel doors. When approaching he backs up and growls but still allowed councilor to put neck leads and photograph and collar with slow approach.
07/19/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Biggie…A big name for such a little and shy guy…Biggie came to us with brother Prince and mother Precious as their owners became homeless. The trio has been outstandingly cared for, probably was quite pampered and a bit sheltered from the outside world. This explains, I guess why they all are rather timid with people and wary with all the changes that have happened since their relinquishment. Biggie, most particularly, needs a gentle approach and he will be fine, a perfect lap and arm dog. He is a fast walker and most likely house trained as indicated by his former family. He marks his territory and is a little macho man in playgroup with the gals…That is of course, what neutering is for…Biggie can sit on command and will run after a ball. He takes treats very gently from my hand. Biggie comes with good recommendations(beside being a cat chasers like his housemates) and seems to have been a happy and loving little guy…. Come and meet Biggie at the Manhattan Care Center. He so would love to be your new forever best friend..
07/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Biggie came into our center as an owner surrender along with two other dogs, his mother and brother. They were bred at home. It is reported Biggie has never been around children. Owner reports Biggie is housetrained to go outside, prefers grass or trees. He is reportedly not bothered if his Food, Toys, Treats are touched or taken. Owner states Biggie is crate trained, sleeps in his crate at night. During intake, Biggie had loose body but was barking, growled when approached by admissions counselor though still allowed all handling with a slow approach. Biggie allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body a bit tense, tail down. He accepted the touch during Sensitivity item, a bit tense, mouth closed. He was uncomfortable during Tag game, spun away quickly during Tag game, jumped up towards assessor and barked, but approached at the end slowly. He did not pull his paw back on both squeeze attempts. Biggie showed no interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports he likes to play with balls. When off leash with other dogs, Biggie is persistently sexually motivated. The Behavior Team feels it would be best if Biggie was adopted by an Experienced owner that does not have children. He may benefit from a slow approach/slow introduction, preferably with being spoken to softly. He may also benefit initially from entering a calm, quiet, structured environment so he can relax and warm up at his own pace to his new surroundings. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is a bit tense, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body tense, mouth closed Tag: 4.
