01/19/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/19/16 16:37 Behavior during intake: This dog was high energy during intake. He became very vocal when he saw other animals or people. He would rest his head on my knee for a few seconds and then go back to sniffing and barking. He allowed us to take his photo in the waiting room and collar him with no issue.
01/26/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: No two ways about if – Biggie is a dude! A little low rider with a wide open smiling face, he’s anxious in his kennel and ready to hit the streets! Showing off his housetraining skills the moment we’re outside, he let me put a coat on him and off we go. Bouncing along on the leash with his tail wagging his smiling face attracts ooohs and ahhhhs from everyone we pass. We stop to take some pictures, and Biggie poses like a pro, making soft eye contact, showing off his sit and taking treats enthusiastically. Biggie has some callouses on his pressure points, some old scars and doesn’t look like he’s led the life of a pampered pet. But don’t tell him that, as he’s as friendly with people as any dog, happy to meet new people and be pet. Off leash in the yard he rolls into me for petting, rolls into and over for a belly rub, and then runs off to bounce in another snow pile. Put some plush toys into the mix and Biggie is off and running to play, coming back for a kiss and then off to find his toy again. As another dog passes he runs over and offers a play bow with an enthusiastically wagging tail. Biggie may need to learn how to play appropriately with both dogs and people, but he’s enthusiastic, fun and in love with life so should learn with appropriate positive reinforcement training. The only thing big about Biggie is his personality – the rest of him is tiny. If you’re ready to provide the home in which Biggie will thrive learning what he needs to learn, we hoping you ask for this little dude. He’s great!
01/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Biggie pulls hard on the leash. He was stiff and showed some aggressive behavior during some part of the assessment. During the look and sensitivity Biggie had a soft body and allows the assessor to handle him but during the tag interaction Biggie became over aroused, growled, hard bark and tried to bite the assessor. For safety reason the behavior team decided to skip the paw item. During the resources Biggie took the toy away but had soft body language. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 5. Dog growls and tries to bite. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs Biggie is tense and attempts to stand tall above the female greeter. He attempts to mount, becoming frustrated and growling when he is unable to.
01/20/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Biggie is selective with both male and female dogs. He, at best, is tense when greeting, escalating up to stiffening, growling and barking at the gate. When he has been introduced he will attempt to mount, sometimes becoming frustrated and growling when he is unable to mount. He entered the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. Based on these observations the behavior department recommends Biggie does not go to a home with other dogs. When off leash with other dogs Biggie is tense and attempts to stand tall above the female greeter. He attempts to mount, becoming frustrated and growling when he is unable to. 1/21: Biggie is tense when greeting, and continues to attempt to mount. He ignores correction from the helper dog.
