03/29/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bernie came into our center after a member of the public found him as a stray and kept him for one month. Behavior around cats and children is unknown. Finder reports Bernie may growl and attempt to snap at strangers and other dogs. He reportedly growls if anyone touches his Food, Toys, Treats while he is engaged with them. Finder reports Bernie would go potty outside and indoors on wee wee pads but may sometimes have accidents. Bernie growled during initial medical exam, whale eye, but allowed slow handling. He attempted to bite when coming out of kennel for his relief walk, Bernie was very uncomfortable walking on leash towards SAFER assessment area, thrashing and resistant. He would not approach for collaring. Due to how overly stressed and resistant he became, tactile portions of the assessment were skipped. Bernie showed no interest in Toy, though this may be due to environment as owner reports Bernie likes squeaky toys and will sometimes play fetch and chase. He did not approach the helper dog, pulling backwards. Bernie must be placed with a New Hope partner. He may initially do best in a calm, quiet, structured space so he can relax and know what to expect. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog, backs away
