05/10/16 15:18hrs Benji has been cared for by his family for the past 9 years since he was a few weeks old. He lived in a home with adults and a toddler. Benji is described as reserved and solitary. He only enjoys being petted when he solicts attention on his own. Benji’s family stated that he attempts to bite the toddler in the home when she tries to touch him. He has interacted with a Boxer in the home and was tolerant of the other dog. When Benji’s notices other dogs outside, he will watch them from afar. BEHAVIOR Benji spends alot of time on his own. His owner stated that he tends to snap and attack the feet of the family when they walk past him with shoes on. Benji will growl, snap and bite if food is taken from him while he is eating. He will rub against his family members legs when he wants to be petted. His owner stated that if he allows petting to pet him gently and not make sudden movements otherwise he may turn and snap. If someone attempts to pet him in the home without him approaching first, he will growl and immediately lunge so he is normally left alone. Benji will bark at people approaching the house and remain calm and to himself when people enter the home. He will growl and snap if he is pushed off of furniture. His owner stated that if someone is eating in the home, Benji will jump up on them and beg for food, so he is often thrown a piece of food to get down. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Benji is house trained. Benji is allowed to roam free in the back yard at least three times a day to relieve himself and to play. His family stated that he doesn’t like to play with toys. Benji is fed wet dog food mixed with table food, normally whatever the family is eating. He will sleep in a corner of a room at night. DURING INTAKE Benji would growl and charge the carrier door while inside of it. While outside of his carrier, he would attempt to hide in the nearest corner. He would growl and remain still if approached and touched. He was not collared and scanned negative for a microchip.
