12/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: Intact, Seized Bite history: Ben has jumped and bitten someone in the face while handling; no further details provided. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/05/16 Ben has remained fairly difficult to manage during his stay at our care centers. Ben has allowed some handling in the care center but he is tense and avoids interaction with his new caretakers. Due to the behaviors observed, and out of concern for his stress level, we do not feel it is appropriate to perform a handling assessment at this time. PLAYGROUP: Summary MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/22/16 During his initial medical examination, Ben tolerated minimal handling. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_Place with a New Hope partner (Due to the fear/avoidance behavior displayed in the care center, we cannot fully evaluate Ben and feel that he will be best set up to succeed through placement with a New Hope partner. We recommend only positive reinforcement-based, force-free training for Ben as aversive methods are likely to heighten his fear and increase aggression.) Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression (Ben is extremely nervous around strangers and can be difficult to handle. It is important to respect those signs and to help Ben gain comfort and confidence in order to avoid escalation.)
