BEHAVIOR :

Ben came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. During SAFER Ben came in calm and relaxed, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Ben was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Ben was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Ben appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter.

Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.

Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw.

Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed.

Toy 1: No interest.

Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Ben greets appropriately and is tolernat of their interactions. He spends most of the time incessantly mounting one other male dog.

GROUP BEHAVIOR

Ben came in as a stray so his past behavior with other dogs is unknown. When off leash with other dogs at the Care Center, Ben greets appropriately and is tolerant of their interactions. He spends most of the time incessantly mounting one other male dog.

5/1 update: Ben enters the pen and immediately attempts to mount another male and a female. He does not respond to their corrections or the handler’s interruptions.
