KNOWN HISTORY: Unaltered, Owner surrender (owned Bella for two months) Previously lived with: Adults (2), children (3, ages seven and older) Behavior toward children: Relaxed and respectful around children in her family; tense, barks, avoids interaction with other children. Behavior toward dogs: Barks and pulls toward dogs when on leash Behavior toward cats: Barks and pulls toward cats when on leash FG/RG: None reported Bite history: No bite history reported Housetrained: Yes, outdoors and wee-wee pad trained Energy level/descriptors: Bella Rae is described as active, curious, and playful Other notes: Bella Rae is crate trained SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/23/16 Summary: Bella was anxious and allowed some petting but when the handler attempted to clip the leash onto her she snapped at the assessor. Due to this clear discomfort and the warning given, the handling assessment was not conducted. Bella’s previous owner describes a few handling-related notes: Bella Rae pulls her paws away when touched and moves away when her lower back is touched. No escalation is noted. DOG-DOG INTERACTION ASSESSMENT: Summary PLAYGROUP: According to Bella Rae’s previous owner, Bella Rae will bark and attempt to get off leash when she sees another dog. Bella Rae displays conflicting body language when greeting a novel male dog. She low growls while play bowing. An attempt was made to place a muzzle on Bella Rae but she dropped to the floor and air snapped at the handler when the attempt was made. The session was ended. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/23/16: During his medical examination, Bella Rae was initially active and attention seeking, but became less comfortable as the exam progressed and snapped once. ENERGY LEVEL:
RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _x_Single-pet home. Due to the conflicting behavior Bella Rae has shown towards other dogs while at the Care Center, the Behavior Department recommends that Bella Rae be the only dog in the home until her behavior towards other dogs can be further addressed. We also recommend caution with cats due to the behavior described by her previous owner. _x_Recommend no dog parks _X_Place with a New Hope partner: While Bella’s previous owner describes an affectionate and playful dog with her family, in this new and high-stress environment Bella has tolerated minimal handling from people and interaction from other dogs. She shows some interest in interacting with humans, but becomes uncomfortable and quickly escalates to higher-level warnings (snapping). We feel that placement with a New Hope partner will best set her up to succeed. Potential challenges: _X_Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Bella Rae has escalated to snapping several times in the care center.
