09/05/17 20:10 Bella Girl is a 2 year old medium brown female dog who was surrendered by her owner due to tenant/landlord issues. The owner stated that she found Bella girl tied up on the street and pregnant. She has had Bella Girl for the past 2 months. The owner stated that Bella Girl has no known health problems. The owner stated that Bella Girl is friendly and outgoing. The owner stated that she has spent time around children and she is relaxed and playful. When playing with children and adults Bella Girl is exuberant. She has not spent time in the home around other dogs or cats besides her puppies so it is unknown how she will react. Owner stated that if Bella Girl is left alone in the home for a long period of time she will destroy things. During fireworks and loud noises she isn’t bothered. She also isn’t bothered if someone was to touch her food treats or toys. Bella Girl is friendly when being restrained pushed off the couch or disturbed while she sleeps. Bell loves water so she enjoys being bathed and brushed. She has never had her nails trimmed so it is unknown how she will react. When someone unfamiliar approaches her house or family member she will bark. Owner described Friendly affectionate and playful with a high activity level. When at home she will follow her owner around. She likes to play with balls and ropes. She has been kept mostly indoors eats both wet and dry food. Bella Girl is very much house broken and never has accidents. When using the bathroom outside she will go on the grass or cement. When left alone and out of her crate for long periods of time Bella Girl will destroy things. Bella Girl has been crated and does well for up to 8 hours. Bella knows how to sit and come when called. She is used to brisk walks on the leash when off the leash she will wander but comes back when called.

Behavior toward strangers: Friendly Behavior toward children: Relaxed Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Unknown Resource guarding: None reported Bite history: None reported Housetrained: Yes, Bella girl is also crate trained, and does well up to 8 hours. Energy level/descriptors: Owner described Friendly affectionate and playful with a high activity level. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 9/8/17 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is open for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Very loose and jumpy ENERGY LEVEL: Her previous owner describes Bella Girl as a playful, friendly, enthusiastic dog. Bella Girl displayed medium energy and movement throughout assessment. Bella Girl will need daily mental and physical activity to keep her engaged and exercised. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)

When off leash at the Care Center, Bella Girl is nervous; displaying a tuck tail while fleeing from the other dogs. She increasingly becomes social and attempts to solicit gentle play but exhibits conflicting behavior when her solicitations are reciprocated. Bella Girls previous guardian reported that she has not spent any time around other dogs. The Behavior Department believes that Bella Girl would be most comfortable as the only dog in the home; however, she may be placed with polite and respectful resident dogs that match her calm energy level. 9/6: Bella Girl mostly avoids interacting with the male helper dog. She displays a nervous posture- tucked tail and ears back. Bella Girl does allow a brief sniff greet from him but quickly moves herself to another part of the yard. 9/7: Bella Girl continues to display nervous behavior in a group of calm male and female dogs. She runs way from an assertive female, and eventually displays lip curls when the other dog is persistent. She sniffs her rear when she turns around, and keeps to herself the remainder of the session. 9/8-9/11: In a group of nervous dogs, Bella Girl displays a soft body before exploring the yard. She begins to solicit gentle play, but is not confident and begins to correct the other dog when he reciprocates.
