07/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bella previously lived with adults. The owner stated Bella is friendly around strangers to some and may growl and bark back to others. The owner describes Bella as friendly, playful, confident and independent. It was reported by the owner Bella has a very high activity level and is not house trained. At intake it was reported Bella snapped at the counselor when being scanned, the previous owner conducted all handling. During SAFER Bella came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Bella was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Bella was easy to handle when engaged with the item. During dog-dog, Bella rushes the gate with a stiff body and hard eyes. Her behavior escalates to hard barks, growling and bare teeth. She is muzzled before being allowed into the pen but becomes fixated with the muzzle. The other dog is allowed to greet her one more time at the gate, when she attempts to lunged. Due to some concerns around other dogs, the behavior department feels she would be suitable for an experienced adopter, we also recommend being the only pet in the home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest.
