07/05/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Beautiful Bella (and yes, she’s worth saying it twice), has a heart shaped nose, the upper part of a heart on her side, and white eyelashes all of which makes me swoon! A total wiggle butt when I start to talk to her, her tail wags, her eyes light up the room and her social, sweet, fun and loving personality just radiates. She seems to be housetrained, pulling hard on the leash until finding that perfect spot to ‘go’, and then walks nicely. A study in black and white, her coat gleams with good care, her freckled ears pull her color ensemble together perfectly, and the aforementioned ‘hearts’ are a delight. She’s like a puzzle – can you find the heart shapes? Bella is a snuggle girl, happy to drape herself in my lap giving me kisses, and when it’s play time she excels there too. A perfect retriever of a tossed tennis ball, she alternates between bringing it right back for another throw letting me take it right out of her mouth, or a game of keep away in which she teases me, coming forward and swerving away at the last moment. Funny girl! She’s done well in play group offering bows and spins to solicit play. Her beauty will draw you to her, but her fun, loving and lively personality will keep you there. She’d love a home where lots of play time followed up with lots of snuggle time is on the daily ‘to do’ list. Ask to meet her when you visit.
07/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bella came into our center on 7/1/2016, she was friendly upon intake. She pulled on leash during her relief walk. She displayed high energy and movement upon entering the SAFER assessment room, jumping up with front paws on desk, knocking things over, etc. Bella pulled out of all three Look attempts. She leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, tail wagging, ears back. She ran and jumped playfully during Tag game, grabbed leash at end of game, difficult to settle. She jumped up during positioning of Squeeze item, quickly pulled her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. Bella showed minimal interest in Toy, sniffing a few times before turning away. When off leash with other dogs, Bella is social and playful. She offers bows, spins, and bounces during play. The Behavior Team feels Bella would do well with an Average adopter, but will need daily physical and mental stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, exercise, play, as well as durable toys such as Kongs and Nylabones to positively direct her energy and enthusiasm. She may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners and focus. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, tail wag, mouth closed Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game, grabs leash at end. Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Quickly pulls back paw Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs, then walks away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Bella is social and playful. She offers bows, spins, and bounces during play.
