I am a female black and white staffordshire mix. The shelter thinks I am about 4 YEARS old.
I came in the shelter as a STRAY on 03/20/2016 from NY 10466, owner surrender reason stated was STRAY.

03/20/16 14:44 Basic information: Bella is a 4 year old Staffordshire pit bull mix. She was given to her previous owner by the person that owned her before her. Her previous owners had her for 7 months. She was surrendered because she bit her previous owner and another dog. She has no known injuries or health problems but hasn’t been to the vet. Socialization: Around strangers Bella is shy for a few minutes and when she plays with adults she is gentle. She lived with an 8 year old child and with her she was relaxed and playful and when she played she was gentle. She also lived with a pit bull mixed with Lab and with him she was relaxed and playful and exuberant at play. Behavior: Bella has bitten a person and animal and punctured skin. The date of the bite was 3-19-16. She isn’t bothered by storms or fireworks or loud noises. If her food bowl or treat is touched she growls. She is playful if her toy is touched. She isn’t bothered if she is pushed off furniture. If she is held or restrained she tries to get away. She isn’t bothered if she is disturbed while sleeping. She is tolerant for baths but it’s hard to get her in the tub. She growls if an unfamiliar person approached her home or owner but would sniff them and allowed petting. Socialization: Bella is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, and shy. She has a medium activity level. The two things her previous owners liked most about her were; she loves to cuddle and listens very well. When her previous owners were home she would tend to follow them around. She liked to play with balls and chew toys and her favorite games are fetch and tug. She was kept indoors only and at night she slept on her previous owner’s bed. She ate dry Beniful with a spoonful of coconut oil. She is house-trained but never had accidents indoors. She is well behaved when left alone indoors. She is crate trained and does well for 8 hours. For exercise she went on brisk walks 3 times a day. On leash she pulls lightly and off leash she wanders but comes when called. Behavior during intake: Bella growled when I approached but then allowed me to pet her, collar her and take her picture.

Bella pulls a bit on leash. She was shy but friendly during the assessment – low body, but trying to stay close. Bella was shy during handling with a fearful body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Bella became stiff and uncomfortable during paw handling raised her lips and turning quickly toward the assessors hand. The Assessors tried to do the flank test but Bella was stiff and giving a whale eyes. During the resources she was not interested in toys. Bellas was surrender to us. The owner described her as friendly, affectionate, playful, and shy. Around strangers Bella is shy for a few minutes and when she plays with adults she is gentle. She lived with an 8 year old child and with her she was relaxed and playful and when she played she was gentle. If her food bowl or treat is touched she growls. She is playful if her toy is touched. The owner also stated that she will nip if the back of her ears are touched or if her paws are held”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff and fearful; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, shy body language , mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog freezes, raised lips. Toy 1. No interest. Dog – dog 2. Dog does not approach the helper dog. Turns body to side in relation to other dog, or exits. Helper: A1068501
