PROFILE:

Beau is a 9 yr old neutered Australian Shepherd mix. His owner got him from a shelter upstate and has had him for 5 years. He has had no injuries or health problems while with his current owner and was last seen by a vet one month ago for vaccines. Beau’s owner is surrendering him because he has no time for him.
Socialization
Around strangers Beau is friendly. He has spent time with children of all ages and is relaxed, respectful and playful with them. He plays gently with adults and children. He has spent time with other dogs at the dog park and is relaxed and playful with all dogs. He plays with other dogs gently and exuberantly. He has lived with two cats who he was respectful of and a rabbit who he did not pay attention to. He does not have a bite history.
Behavior
Beau’s owner does not have any issues with his behavior. Beau spent a lot of time in the laundry room. He gets nervous during thunderstorms. He isnt bothered when someone takes away his food while he is eating, takes away a treat or a toy, pushes or pulls her off the furniture, holds or restrains her, disturbs her while sleeping, gets a nail trim. He loves getting baths and also is friendly when someone unfamiliar approaches his house, yard or family member.
For new family
Beau is friendly, affectionate, playful and mellow. His activity level is low. His owners love how sweet and gentle he is. Beau’s favorite thing to do is play fetch with his stuffed toys and balls. He will stay in his favorite spot in the laundry room when at home and sleeps in there. He has free range of the house and yard with a doggie door. He eats both wet and dry food getting a full bowl 2xday. His favorite treats are Greenies and rawhides. He is housetrained and never has accidents in the house. He goes potty on the grass when he is outside. When he is left alone in the yard he is well-behaved and can dig sometimes. He is also well-behaved when left alone in the house. He has never been crate trained and knows shake, sit, and down commands. For exercise Beau likes to play in the yard or at off leash dog parks. He pulls hard on the leash and when off leash will wander but does come when called, he can also stay close to you, or wander and is hard to catch.
During intake Beau was very friendly and allowed all handling. He was calm with the counselor and was calm with other staff who entered the room. He had a relaxed body and was mellow.
