I am a neutered male brown and white bullmastiff mix. The shelter thinks I am about 1 YEAR 5 MONTHS old.
I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 05/21/2016 from NY 10456, owner surrender reason stated was TOO STRONG.

5/21/16 19:54 Basic information: Bear a roughly 1 yr. old Bull Mastiff mix. The Owner got her from a friend as a gift; she has owned Bear for over 12 months. The owner surrendered Bear because he is too strong for her to handle. Bear has never been treated and has never been taken to a vet. Socialization: Around strangers Bear is very fearful and will bark at the person until he feels comfortable. Bear has lived a 14 year old child, he playful around the child. Bear has lived with a cat and they play together but Bear can sometimes play rough. Bear has never bitten anyone. Behavior: The owner stats that she has never moved his food or treats while eating or took his toys away so she has no idea how he would react. Bear has never had his nails trimmed or been bathed. When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or his home he barks at them and my lung at them, however if he approaches the person and allows him to sniff he will allow slow approach. The owner does not know how Bear is around loud noises such as storms or fireworks. For a new family to know: The owner describes Bear as shy and playful with a very high activity level. His favorite activity is to play fetch with his owner. In the home Bear tends to follow the owner around the house and is kept mainly indoors. Bear sleeps in the floor of the bedroom on a dog bed. Bear was fed Pedigree dry dog food once a day. He is house trained but does have accidents in the home at least once a day, when outside he goes to the bathroom on or around trees and grass. Bear knows the commands “sit “and “stay”. For exercise Bear is used to brisk walks on the leash and 3 times a day and pulls strongly on the leash. Behavior during intake: Bear was relaxed very tense with stiff body, when approached by staff Bear growled and lunged at the staff member, owner was able to assist us, scanned (+), collared, pictured and placing in dog kennel.

Bear was difficult to remove from his kennel showing teeth, growling, with a fearful body, ears back, and body low. Once he was removed from his kennel he walks with a low body, hackles raise. Bear was stiff and did not show social behavior during the assessment. Bear was uncomfortable when the behavior team tries to collar him he wrinkles his muzzle to expose his front teeth and lunged at the assessor. The behavior team decided to skip the handling part of the assessment for safety reasons. During the resources Bear was not interested in toys. He does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. Bear was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Bear is shy and playful with a very high activity level. His favorite activity is to play fetch with his owner. Around strangers Bear is very fearful and will bark at the person until he feels comfortable. Bear has lived a 14 year old child, he playful around the child. Bear has lived with a cat and they play together but Bear can sometimes play rough. The owner stats that she has never moved his food or treats while eating or took his toys away so she has no idea how he would react”. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
