03/20/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: What a great face! And that smile! The cherry on top is Bear’s wonderful disposition toward us, humans. He is one friendly, sociable and affectionate pooch who loves to lean on his caretaker, come to her/his chest for hugs and loves but loves to be caressed and kissed… Yep, he is a Teddy Bear….Bear is strong but nothing that I cannot manage. No need for a harness. He likes to jump and to behave at times like the puppy he is not, although he might be one at heart. He seems to like balls but did not really play with one for me. He loves food and will sit at once, straight like an I for a treat…His expecting face is priceless. Bear gets excited when he sees other dogs he clearly would like to meet. In playgroups with his peers, he has, as an unneutered male, the tendency to mount. Neutering will be a must before any adoption…Bear is a young man, only three years of age. He is a bit thin for a Rottweiler but his coat is absolutely gorgeous. Bear is at the Manhattan Care Center, waiting for that Rotie lover who will be his beloved new master.
03/18/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bear pulls hard on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Bear was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He took the toy away, body language was stiff. Bear is a very active and jumpy dog. He shows some possible guarding issues during the toy test. Bear needs a significant amount of exercise, mental stimulation and training. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced adopter. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 3. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Beat attempts to mount the female greeter and does not cease with correction from the other dog, or handler interruption.
