03/05/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bear came to us as a stray on 2/27/15. It was reported that Bear was a dog that was taken care of from the neighborhood he lived in, and does not get along with cats. He has never socialized with other dogs, so his behavior towards them is unknown. Upon intake he seemed to be fearful and nervous, sometimes becoming wide eyed when trying to be collared. Bear was a bit unresponsive towards the assessor during the assessment, but allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile items without displaying any signs of aggression. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Bear showed no interest in the toy or rawhide items on this portion of the evaluation. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needs coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest.

03/22/15, a volunteer writes: Bear you had me at hello! This handsome little meatball and I went on a date yesterday afternoon, and his manners were impeccable. This low rider has the most incredible jowls that were just made for kisses. This young pup is not only easy on the eyes, he also seems housebroken and keeps a very clean kennel. While playing in the yard, Bear’s good looks and play bows caught the attention of several dogs passing by. Hurry on over to the care center to meet this hunk, he won’t be single for long!
