06/17/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Beano is not only the most adorable little butterball, he’s also a super star! He comes to us as a stray, but is clearly a dog that has been well-cared for. He knows “sit” and “paw”, and will bat his paw in the air before I can even outstretch my hand! He is very food-motivated and smart as a whip, so I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to teach him lots of other tricks. He LOVES playing with toys and doesn’t show any guarding issues. He tries to maneuver two balls at once in his mouth, is a master at play bowing, and could be a model with all of his frog leg poses! He pulls some on leash at first, but once he relieves himself (he seems very housebroken) is easy to handle. He has done well in our playgroups and was relaxed around his finders’s two elderly little dogs (even though they weren’t so welcoming of him!). And his most endearing attribute…he loves belly rubs!! He is very wiggly when getting petted, and it doesn’t take long for him to flop over…he is so sweet! Beano is truly a joy to be around and quite the catch. He’s looking for his corner of the universe to shine in — please come meet him at Brooklyn ACC and see if that might be your house!
06/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Beano came as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. Upon intake it was reported Beano was friendly with loose body posture and allowed all handling. During SAFER Beano came into the assessment room friendly and playful, he was social towards the assessor, he allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Beano was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Beano was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Beano appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Dog-Dog:Beano was brought in as a stray so his behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the Care Center, he greets with a soft, loose body and follows the helper dog around the pen while exploring. 6/16/16 update: Today an Enrichment Team member witnessed Beano lunging and snapping at staff as they walked passed him while he was on his way outside to playgroup. Additionally, it has been reported that he growls and lunges when his kennel is approached. Due to these behaviors, we do not feel that Beano is a suitable candidate for adoption.
06/09/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Beano was brought in as a stray so his behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash at the Care Center, Beano enjoys soliciting and engaging in high energy play with males and females, becoming mouthy at times. He may attempt to mount a male dog. The behavior department recommends that a through dog-dog interaction be done with any potential adopter’s dog to make sure they are tolerant of Beano’s playful and mounting behavior. 6/9: Beano greets with a soft, loose body and follows the helper dog around the pen while exploring. 6/12: Beano solicits and engages in high energy play. He becomes frustrated when the other dog does not continue to play and beings to engage in mouthy play. 6/13: Beano engages in group play with males and females, displaying the same play style. 6/14: Beano seems to become uncomfortable with high energy play and offers mouthy corrections. 6/15: Beano engages in mouthy play in a group of male and females. He attempts to mount male dogs. 6/16: Beano engages in a short burst of play before wandering in the pen.
