11/14/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray Other notes: Upon intake Bayli displayed a loose body and wagging tail. In the care center she bites the leash frantically and does not release. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 11/14/16 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with his tail high, tense, barking Summary: Bayli appeared anxious while in the assessment room and in the shelter, she displayed panting, excessive energy, pacing, leash biting. We cannot be certain if any other behavior is suppressed as a result of the shelter environment; a period of decompression is advised to aid in acclimating to a new home environment, force-free, reward based training is advised when introducing/exposing Bayli to new and unfamiliar situations. PLAYGROUP: Summary MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 11/12/16 During his initial medical exam Bayli appeared social and hyper. ENERGY LEVEL: IN-SHELTER OBSERVATIONS: It has been observed when walking Bayli on leash, she is able to ignore select passing dogs, while other dogs she has been observed to pull toward and bark. When in the nearby proximity of smaller animals or smaller dogs walking by, Bayli becomes tense, fixated, and pulls hard toward them. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (Suitable for an adopter with a previous amount of dog experience) Potential challenges: _X_On-leash reactivity/barrier frustration (During her stay at our care center, Bayli has, at times, displayed a low threshold for dog reactivity and frustration on leash: hard pulling, barking, lunging, high-pitched vocalization.)
