A volunteer writes: Puppy!!!! Bay is a little black statue in his kennel- wide eyed and observant and wondering where he is. We met on his first day at the Care Center and this little boy is lost and bewildered, but also hopeful and inquisitive. After a few minutes of playing “getting to know you” – the exchange of a few treats and kind words- and this little boy gives himself over to the joy of company, of being outside, of receiving love and treats and mostly to the welcoming words of all the humans he meets. Brought in as a stray, this puppy is no stranger to humans and certainly not to the leash as he is an accomplished and mature walker- knowing to stay to my left and keep pace with my stride. He does all his business outside and welcomes admiration from strangers with play bows and tail wagging enthusiasm. Seeing him happy and relaxed speaks to the incredible resilience of our wonderful canine companions. Bay is currently accepting applicants for a new family- come meet him today!
05/03/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Bay pulls a bit on the leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Bay was excited and mouthy (light) during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Bay is an active dog she need a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that she can go to an experience home. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog gently places her open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place his body between you and the toy.
05/03/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Bay engages in rough, mouthy play with males and females, at times attempting to mount during. The behavior department feels that Bay may be placed into a home with another social, highly playful dog. Bay arrived into our care as a stray, so in home behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash with other dogs, Bay only briefly sniffs to greet the female greeter dog. He quickly becomes distracted by other stimuli in the yard. He evetually re-approaches and offers the greeter dog a few bows before wandering off once more. 5/4 update: Bay engages in rough, mouthy play with males and females. 5/5 update: Bay engages in bouncy play with males and females. He at times attempts to mount dogs of both sexes during play. 5/6 update: Bay continues to engage in rough, mouthy play with males and females. 5/8 update: Bay engages in rough, mouthy play.
